My mom says this dress is slutty, so please help me 'unsluttify' it
purpose & description
I bought this white shift dress in New York City a month ago, and I really like it. I'm a petite girl, so it fit with my height and figure well. At my school, the first day of school is actually a semi-formal ceremony called matriculation, so we all have to dress. I really want to wear this, but my mom says it's a whore dress. What can I do to make it less 'whoreish'? I'm thinking about wearing these colorful ballet flats to add some color and make it less 'slutty' since I won't be wearing heels. Should I wear white leggings underneath too? It is slightly see-through if I'm wearing black underwear or something, so I'm thinking I have to wear leggings underneath or another dress underneath. My initial thought when I bought this dress was that it looked innocent and cute; not 'slutty' like my mom says. She's having a fit; help me please? What can I do?

if you can see black underwear through it, why not wear white, or even better, NUDE underwear underneath, you know, so it doesn't show through. personally i think the dress is hideous, the big flower thing needs chopping off and it looks like something a little girl would play dress up in. sorry. if you're determined to wear it though, go with coucou's advice - cardigan and flats.

This flower-ribbon-thing definetely has to go, but the dress is cute.. those flats are good and you could wear a cardigan or a little jacket with it to "unslutify" it^^

Maybe one of those cropped boxy jackets, and minus the flower?

Your mom might be concerned about the length of the dress, which can seem short on your defined legs. I agree with AnnieChin, try taking off the flower on the middle of your dress. Also

I think you can compromise with your mom by wearing a cropped cardigan. You could also take the flower off in the middle of your dress and pin it to the side of the cardigan. I don't think leggings would go with this style and perhaps a satin material for your shoe would go better with the dress.

hey, obviously you love the flower or you probably wouldve already taken it off, if you like it, keep it OR take it off & put it in your hair or something..I think the problem with it is that it looks a bit like underwear/sleepwear, (that might be what your mum is reffering to) so if you nip in the waist, sayw ith a belt or a cardigan, it will draw attention away from that. flats are a cute idea, maybe tights if you feel it is too short. :]
