purpose & description

I love this vintage black embroidered dress with beading details. I added my great grandmother's old opera gloves with pearl buttons from the 1930s and would have added a short pearl necklace if I'd had one. The beading detail on the empire waist and the scoop back make it swanky enough to wear to a fancy event such as an opera. I wore it with black pumps from 9 West with the '30s-reminscent cutout detail since I was going for a vintage look.

great for a costume party, nothing more at this age

I love the vintage look you're going for, but it just looks kind of plain right now. You need a necklace that is much more bold and dramatic. Or make the shoes a bit more different.

I see what you're going for and it's great if you have someplace to carry out this outfit. I think the material of the gloves need to be more silky and thin. Although I think the cut of the necklace and the gloves do not go well together.

I love the dress, but I see zero originallity in this outfit. And I think pointy shoes would've worked better.

We really like the dress, but the shoes don't work. We get the whole vintage thing, but not ALL the pieces have to be vintage. It would look better with something updated, maybe open-toe. And no gloves. They're distracting.

wow. that is a great vintage dress! It fits you well and is very 30s. I think the gloves are a bit heavy for the dress. They look like winter gloves, where the dress is for warmer weather. They might work better if they were satin, but it doesn't look like it.

This dress fits really beautiful on you like you just stepped off an Oscar de la Renta runway! However, I think the 30s look was carried a bit too far. Next time modernize it just a bit.

Beautiful detail on the dress. However, I think the gloves are a bit much, usually I like to see them with a longer length.

Those gloves are spectacular. I would have chosen a black, strapless dress. J. Crew has a nice selection. BCBG always has nice dresses for special occasions too. The Nine West shoes are nice, but be prepared for them to fall apart. Those suckers never last long.

I love the dress and shoes, but the gloves are a bit much.

While I love the gloves, I don't think it goes with the dress because of the designs on the dress, and also because I think the dress is not fancy enough to wear gloves with it. But great find!

I am such a glove girl. I love it. A long strand of pearls would be pretty. Or just some giant faux diamond studs. Or huge fake pearl earrings. This is very Audrey Hepburn.
