The little black dress for summer

The little black dress for summer: 0

purpose & description

Common sense dictates that black isn't the most popular color for summer, but who can resist the appeals of the little black dress? I'll pair this black J.Crew jumper that ends halfway down my knees with cropped black leggings from Susana Monaco, and satin black and white polka dotted ballet flats from Joie. To cinch off this little dressy ensemble, I'll carry a little white leather clutch from Jill Stuart. Is there too much black? Too much white? Should I add more color?

I don't like the black dress with black leggings, too much black! Maybe if the dress was in another color (do they have it in other colors)?

I think the clutch would be alright actually, but the polka dotted shoes+leggings are way too distracting from such a cute dress. Either wear it with solid black flats or maybe your lace up espadrilles to keep it summery. How long is that dress by the way?

im no colour. i usually wear darker colours (unless its juicy) i love the jcrew jumper. i wouldnt wear this jumper with leggings though. why mix up a cute summer essential with winter leggings? the polka dotted flats look cheap and the white clutch is bleh. for accessories, take out your 3 year old balenciage bag or even your chloe bag. and for the shoes, wear with either marc by marc jacobs mouse flats or with lace up leggings!

i agree with wearing a gold necklace, but i would keep the leggings.

I'm all for color but I think this outfit works as it is. Although I wouldn't wear the leggings for the summer because it takes away from the adorable jumper dress and it would be too much blakc. Add in a gold necklace to bring the outfit together with the clutch.

how long is that dress? now personally, i love black, but i think that if it won't be too short, you should just ditch the leggings. The leggings give it a very sort of downtown(nyc) look, and makes the outfit look just a little too "going with the trend". Without the leggings though, the dress along with those shoes and clutch has a classier appearance. Very airy and floaty and much more summery with the added bonus of looking more upper east side(again, nyc). Though, if you have thicker legs, make sure the dress hits at a flattering place. Usually you want your clothes to conceal the thickest part of your thighs while revealing the rest

A bit too much black. I love leggings, but why not try a fun/flirty pair with a little color or even a pattern (without getting too cheesey or crazy). The dress does seem long enough to wear without leggings, and you could find a great polka dot wedge heel (I know Nine West has an adorable pair in red and black dots)

This is a fun, easy daytime outfit. Dressing during the day, especially in summer, shouldn't be too involved. If you feel it's too much black, why not try a bright shoe or handbag to "pop" up the outfit. If you are comfortable with leggings in the middle of summer, then by all means wear them! If you work in an office or attend class where the thermostat is set on arctic, those leggings could come in quite handy. Besides, they're comfy!

Too much black and I agree, it's far too warm for leggings this time of year! The dress would also look cute with a necklace, like big white beads.

Black and white is so hot right now the outfit is great and the peices are a good investment for early fall to, because the look will transition well.

First off, as Lucky say, you don't need leggings for summertime. The dress is long enough without, and it'll be too warm. I like the shoes and the bag, what about a long white necklace? Or maybe red for more color?

Very cute, but I don't even think you need the leggings. Black dress on black leggings IS a lot of black, and hey, it's summer!
