purpose & description

As a curvy gal, I was thrilled when flashes of Sophia Loren and Bettie Page were in the fashion mags for summer looks. I adore their pin-ups suits and found one in my size at my local over-priced thrift store here in Brooklyn. I ain't no Sofia Loren...but can I pull off this pin-up look for my LA weekend getaway? HELP!

The suit is kind of cool and retro, but I think the one you are wearing on this photo is a little bit too small..

I love that suit. It looks great on you.

I love that you are embracing your curves and going with a twist on a pin-up suit. Because you are a voluptuous girl, the bold pattern definitely works in your favor (which smaller girls could not pull off) Go and be a stand out in LA!

I think the Bettie Page idea works really well with your body. You're totally a pin-up and the suit gives a great silhouette.

ahhhhh!!! i'm completely in LOVE with this.. I live in nyc, pray tell, what thrift store? And yes! you definitely can pull it off! It looks great on you and really emphasizes your curves. Your waist is also proportionately small to the rest of your body and the cut just creates an insane hourglass figure. Wow, it's lovely. Just beware of wearing it with heels. Think cute, maybe patent leather white flipflops with dainty straps. Heels will just make you look.. well.. slutty :(

I really love this look for you. It accentuates you in all the right places and is a great print that doesn't draw attention to any wrong areas! I think it also makes it much more of a prize "fashion find" that it is from a thrift shop. Think of all the stories you could make up about the suit as well as all the great memories you;re going to make in it!! Great look!

So cute! It really works for you. I love the print (blue is always best for swim wear, in my opinion). I've never been to LA, but I'm sure you would turn heads in this (in a good way of course!). A perfect cover-up would be a white eyelet dress that would show the swimsuit's great pattern through. Have fun in LA!

I adore the fact that this a vintage inspired piece and it looks amazing on you, however as mentioned previously, I am not sure in what context you plan on wearing it. Because your tags contain swim wear and bathing, I'll assume that it's strictly for the poolside. Los Angeles will appreciate this vintage inspired piece, as we have thrift stores, swap meets and vintage lovers galore, don't be discouraged, L.A isn't as superficial as you think. However, if it's for anything other than swimming/bathing, I'd say add a cute white waist belt, a cardigan and some shorts, that way if you want to swim all you have to do is peel the extra layers off and voila!

What a fun idea, and perfect for the curvy girl. I really like the pattern too, it's such a throwback. However I have to agree with Trayhop, if you are going to LA in that you might feel discouraged by all the size 0's, and this is way too good to not wear in fear of people who don't know how to eat. In NY this is an awesome choice, maybe not so much for LA.

I love that the pin-up look of the '40s and '50s is back. It's a fashion period that celebrated women with curves and the black and white clover pattern is precious. But if you're planning to wear this suit on the beach in LA -- land of stick figures like Nicole Richie and bouncing implants a la Pam Anderson -- you might want to pack a sexier alternative. This suit would be perfect, however, for lounging at a retro pool party. By the way, Brooklyn girls rule!

pin up suits are hot for summer. Love those 1940's looking shorts.

From the photo it's hard to tell what this piece is for. If it's a bathing suit, go for it! If it's just for around town, ditch the shorty shorts and go for a flowy skirt and tank or some bermuda shorts and wedge heels.
